Another cover story I was asked to illustrate for the local Alt-Weekly Asheville paper, The Mountain Xpress, was this one about an upcoming vote on local bonds that would be used to fund greenways and preserve open space, as well as for affordable housing.
I was given some ideas they had, which I comped out as seen in the examples below. I also added my own idea (a joke about the bonds being presented the same way James Bond is at the beginning of his movies, with the rifled barrel focusing in on the $70 Million figure the bonds would raise instead of the 007 spy designation) thinking it would be dismissed over the preferred ideas, so I did not flesh it out as much as the comps and only gave it a rough sketch. That, however, is the idea they chose to go with, so I was tasked with realizing it and making some tweaks. The final published version is seen below:
